Driving in Japan

Driving in Japan

Driving in Japan is generally easy and safe. Speed limits are low, most people drive slowly, and driving is on the left. You won’t encounter many roundabouts, and parallel parking is rare since most places have off-road parking. Traffic lights are common, even at small intersections, to help drivers make safer choices. Road signs use both Japanese characters and the alphabet, and road rage is almost unheard of. Overall, driving in Japan is less stressful compared to many other countries.

In winter, snowy weather can be a challenge, but the secret is to drive slowly, like everyone else. Hakuba’s main roads are well-cleared thanks to government funding, so getting around is not a problem.
